GEM (Green and Economical by Michelle) Cloth was born when I realized that we could save money by using cloth diapers for our toddler son and that I could sew them from materials I already had. I had not sewn anything in years but still made my son an attractive and useful diaper stash using old t-shirts, old cotton and flannel shirts, and old flannel sheets from around my house, my parents' house, yard sales, and thrift stores. Soon I began getting requests from other cloth diapering mamas, and I stuck to the same principles that had worked so well for us, only 100 percent cotton materials and upcycled/repurposed materials. I now make diapers, feminine pads, nursing pads, and baby and family wipes.
My son, wearing one of the prefold diapers I made for him, yelling at his big sister!
That's me, Michelle Wallace, the creator of GEM Cloth - Pads, Diapers & Family Reusables! No elaborate organization here, just me sewing in a little corner of the garage that I've claimed for my sewing corner. I work my sewing around my writing (I'm actually a freelance journalist) and my three children.
